Substance Painter is a 3D painting app for creating textures, with a particular emphasis on materials. It's one of the most widely used apps in professional video game development. In this post we're going to be taking a deep dive into what Substance Painter 2019 has to offer! I'll cover what you can expect from Substance Painter 2019, and show you some of the awesome new features!______________________________________________________________________ Image from Deposit Photos 06-19-2019 Copyright © xtock [ https://www.depositphotos.com/stock-photo/circular-cracks. htm?#! Heres the list of the 7 things I like about this App: - It's a great app for beginners and professionals alike. It is easy to learn and offers many tools. - It's made by an awesome team that listens to its community and they responded to most of my suggestions (which is very rare in my experience). - It offers the ability to control the results you have at any given time, there are so many options available, you will not be stuck on any particular look or fashion. You can always change your mind if you do not like something, it updates as you work. - The editor is intuitive, easy to learn and efficient. It feels like working with any other common photo editing software (like Lightroom or Photoshop), but with special effects that are purely Substance Painter. The results are very realistic, the materials seem to be physically based, they respond to your direct interactions very well (and it's fun to play with). - There is an easy way of exporting your work as image or video. You can choose several output formats (Maya FBX for animation; 3DS, Houdini; Unity; FBX format for game engines; Collada format for 3D printers), there's also an export function in Substance Designer that lets you export directly into Collada format. - Substance Painter 2019 is a great tool for concept art. You can create completely different looking objects and materials without having to start from scratch. - It's a powerful app that allows you to render, using physical lighting and physical cameras (the only thing that is not real in reality, but it looks good). ______________________________________________________________________ Substance Painter can be used in many ways: for 3D modeling; for creating concept art; to simulate the appearance of PBR (Physically Based Rendering) in your 3D software; and even in games for creating textures and materials. It has a great community and offers many tutorials on the web. There's also a decent documentation and a very helpful forum, I recommend you to visit it. So let's start: for this review we'll be working on some tileable marble textures. First we'll use the default settings and try to get a good marble texture. Then we'll add some noise and detail variations in different parts of the texture to add contrast and variation. As soon as you open Substance Painter, the first thing you see is this viewport: ______________________________________________________________________ [ IMAGE ] You can customize your workspace according to your preferences. If you need more space on the left side, just click on that grey bar up there, then drag it into that area. eccc085e13
